Current Projects
GreenWays consultants have developed and implemented a complete outreach and education program for the Waldo County Soil and Water Conservation District, and have facilitated other aspects of organizational development such as social media and communication.
The Community Conservation Corps program provides opportunities for area students to work on environmentally positive projects for local municipalities and non-profits such as land trusts and parks
departments. Community volunteers will work with and alongside Re-entry Center residents in these land-based work projects. The program will be instructive, and assist participants with self development and
job skills. Participants will work on invasive plant control, site improvement and restoration, tree planting,
landscape work, erosion control, trail building and more. Experienced community volunteers, students, land managers, and ecologists work directly with participants, creating a highly inclusive, multi-generational corps. This program is now managed by the Waldo County Soil and Water Conservation District.
GreenWays consultants have developed a General Management Plan for Sears Island Conservation Area, and as a part of that planning will create and lead volunteers in monitoring sensitive habitats, environmental changes and invasive plants on the island. GreenWays staff and volunteers also lead a campaign to rid the island of invasive plants and to create a citizen science biodiversity monitoring program.
GreenWays ecologists are providing assistance to Coastal Mountains Land Trust in their efforts to control invasive plants on their preserves and to provide education on invasives to staff and volunteers.
GreenWays ecologists are helping to catalog trees in the City Park, Belfast, Maine and are developing a plan to create an arboretum in the park. This season, signs and tree labels will be added. Plans for additional plant displays and additional species are in the works as well.
